If I were hit by a car on the road 30 meters from the hospital entrance, I would insist I be taken to another hospital as long as there was breath in my body. I don't think I can find the words to describe how mishandled my care was here - for medical staff to do far more harm than good, to leave with health issues I didn't go in with. Stuck for a day and half, unable to leave, with no treatment or discharge because they didn't have doctor to assign and staff all denied that there was anyone (in the whole hospital!) that I could speak to about my concerns about my care. If you have a choice, go elsewhere; if you get stuck with Centenary and have any issue, report it because this has to change.
Nurses were the worst. Arrived at emerge around 8pm....nurses never acknowledge me standing at their window in tears. Minutes later one of the emt employees sat right in front of the window...back to me. I finally knocked on the glass in tears and said "can someone pls help me?" I couldn't sit due to a very ripe abscess on my tailbone. I stood hunched over for hours in pain. I asked the nurse who finally registered me for a gurney or bed so I could lay on my stomach.... she replied there are none. Minutes later I was asked to follow the yellow dots on the floor...I saw 6 empty gurneys. She walked by me a few times as I hunched over in pain next to one of the empty gurneys....said nothing and had no empathy. I stood for approximately 4hrs35mins. Worst nurses here...2nd time and same treatment.
Dirty /not many garbage cans around property. Walls outside on east side crumbling. Access has been fenced off for months and wheelchair parking fenced off and nothing being done. Poor directions inside can't find departments and even information sends people continuously to wrong depts. not a good place anymore.
I've been here about eight times over the last few years. I find the waiting time can vary...but no complaints there, it IS an ER. That said, last summer I had such bad stomach pain I was taken there by ambulance. I was on the stretcher for AN HOUR and then I waited in an exam room for ANOTHER HOUR. Luckily, it turned out to be something relatively insignificant, but the dr barely spoke to me and obviously didn't check my chart cos he initially prescribed a drug to which I'm allergic. Good thing one of us was fully conscious. Because I have a chronic condition, I've had to visit a couple of ERs in Toronto. Sadly, Centenary rates pretty badly.
years ago they did an emergency operation to remove m gull bladder & used the old fashioned style 9 stitches or more-I have so many bad side effects I was in for 10 days-not 1 not surgery-their choices were wrong 4 years later I have consent pain in that location-likely errors made during surgery damaging nearby mussels & what not. None of the staff to this day will admit errors were made the dy of that surgery-errors that now in my 50's I suffer from daily-over what have been a simple operations. Another time-Oct 2014 My mom was rushed there from my home nearby-she had a fall & tuned 86 that month-after hours on a stretcher her-no dr ordered bw or anyting just an ct scan-dr did not talk to her directly-whne the results came back-they didn't talk to her & ordered us to take to take her home-a month later she died. No dementia-no excuse for the dr. behavior to this old person-ever since her death-their collection dept. has been calling me to pay her ambulance bill. STROKE-YEP SOMETHING NOTICEABLE IN FOLKS WHO START FALLING 4 O REASON-AN EARLY SIGN.
I have been here with my boyfriend to many times to count in the last almost two years. Staff at emergency when dealing with psychiatric patients need more training on how to manage someone coming in, in a potential and in our case life threatening illness before them. He was able to bolt from a waiting room and do serious harm to himself before being admitted .. Only to pass away .. months later.. I really am hoping this hospital takes serious inquires into issues as such and makes a change as its needed this can't continue to happen we are not coming to hospital with serious issues because we don't need the help, we are putting our loved ones lives in your trust and expect that they get the best of care. Not all staff I have encountered weren't compassionate and genuinely concerned, thankfully there are some staff that .. really do stand out and do a great job, you just need alot more of these type of staff, or please ensure the correct training is provided. In losing the person I love I am absolutely lost and still need answers.. ! Lets make changes to health care system now so others won't see this happen to them!
